Rosemont School is located in northwest Calgary, near Confederation Park. It was built in 1959; an addition in 1966 nearly doubled the size of the building.

An exterior renovation in 2017 brought new energy-efficient windows and enhanced insulation and siding. Our naturalization area is a work in progress. During the exterior renovation, trees and shrubs near the school were cut down with a view to regrowth over four to six years. Subsequent landscape remediation and parent support make this area important as an outdoor classroom and a community retreat.

Our students walk to school, are driven to school, or take the bus to school. Most students stay for lunch. Rosemont Community Childcare (private operator) runs a before- and after-school program onsite. The community is highly supportive of the school.  The Rosemont School Council (RSC) and the Rosemont Fundraising Society (RFS) give parents the opportunity to be active in school decisions and contribute to student success.

What is it that makes Rosemont School a great place for learning?

This question is sometimes asked by prospective families. Some parents who have chosen Rosemont as the school for their child/children have provided the following thoughts:

  • The small student population creates a strong feeling of community. Staff members know all the students and students know all the staff members. Parents are active in the learning community as volunteers and support the RSC and RFS. They feel connected to the learning community.
  • The approach to learning, with a strong academic focus, is a good fit for families.
  • The program enhancements funded by RFS provide rich experiences for students (residencies, activities, presentations, resources).
  • The diverse range of activities provided through the physical education program (inline skating, swimming, Canadian climber) engages students.
  • Biannual outdoor school experience for students in grades 5 & 6.
  • The student leadership opportunities enhance connections between students K-6.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
