Grade 7 Open House School Visit

Sir John Franklin School - Arts Centred Learning Open House - Thursday, January 22, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM

Family Literacy Day

Did you know that Tuesday, January 27, is Family Literacy Day in Alberta? The entire week from January 26 to February 2 is Family Literacy Week. What a wonderful time to snuggle up with a great book and enjoy reading together with your child. We look forward to hearing about the great reads happening at home.

Reading with your child each day is one of the most impactful ways to support their learning and development. Shared reading builds language and vocabulary, strengthens comprehension, and fosters a love of learning that extends across all subject areas. Spending just 10 to 15 minutes reading together, talking about the story, asking questions, and making connections helps develop focus, confidence, and critical thinking skills. Your time and engagement truly make a lasting difference.

Please check out these websites for more information and resources.

Report Cards

Report Cards will be viewable through your MyCBE account beginning February 24. Paper copies of report cards will not be sent home. If you have questions regarding the content in your child’s report card, please contact your child’s teacher. If you have questions regarding access to your child’s report card, please contact the school office at 403-777-6230 during regular business hours.

Please note, Kindergarten report cards will look a little different than for our grades 1 to 6 students. In February, progress in only ELAL and Math will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card through both indicators and comments.  In June, progress in all discipline areas will be shared through indicators and comments.

School Update | School Development Plan (SDP)

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students, and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results, and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

Our next School Council meeting will take place Tuesday, February 17 at 6:00 p.m., in person at Rosemont School. We look forward to seeing you there.
